How to Make an Ice Cream Scoop Candle With Essential Oils

I love how fun this Ice Cream Scoop Candle looks—the kids love it too! I use it as a decorative candle to add a cute and quirky element to any space. When it’s lit, the wonderful scent of the essential oils uplifts my mood without being overpowering.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 oz soy wax (~1/3 cup)
  • 1 Tbsp beeswax
  • 1/2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 20 drops Coffee Essential Oil
  • 20 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil
  • 1 braided cotton wick
  • 1 votive candle jar

How To Make It

  • 1. In a double boiler, melt soy wax, beeswax, and coconut oil together. Once melted, remove from heat.
  • 2. Allow the wax to cool slightly (to about 155° F) then add the essential oils and stir.
  • 3. Dip the bottom of the wick into the melted wax. Fasten the wick to the center of the votive candle jar.
  • 4. Pour the melted wax into the votive candle jar until it is about half full.
  • 5. Allow the remaining candle wax to cool in the double boiler.
  • 6. Once the remaining wax is solid but still soft to the touch, use an ice cream scoop or spoon to create a scoop of wax.†
  • 7. Use a skewer or toothpick to poke a hole through the center of the wax. Place the wax scoop onto the candle with the wick going through the hole you created.
  • 8. When the candle cools completely, trim the wick to 1/4 inch and light it. Always burn it within sight and away from flammable objects. Keep away from children and pets.

†NOTE: If you don’t like how your scoop turns out, you can remelt the wax and repeat steps 5-7.
