5 Lies Essential Oil Companies Tell

Just because it's on the internet, doesn't mean it's true.

Lie #1: Purity and Price are Synonymous

It's a common belief that it is the purity of the oil that drives the ticket price. While purity is incredibly important, (and there are plenty of fake oils out there!) you would be very shocked to learn how much a 100% pure essential oil bottle actually costs when created in large quantities. The price hikes seen at other companies are due to the structure of their business model, not the purity of the oils. All of our oils are sourced from ethical farms and have undergone third party testing to ensure 100% purity. We sell to you directly and are able to operate on smaller margins as a result!

Lie #2: Organic is the Same as Purity

Essential oils should never have any additives or fillers. What some companies do is dilute their oils with other organic products, highlighting "organic" as the reason to buy. Don't be fooled - even if the other products in the oil are organic, once an essential oil has been adulterated, it ceases to be pure!

Lie #3: Essential Oils Can Replace Your Doctor

Essential oils don't replace the advice or treatment given by a doctor, and if you are taking any medications, you should check with your doctor before using essential oils. Certain oils can interfere with medications you are taking by making their effects too strong - like an overdose. Other essential oils can have reverse actions of the drug, making it ineffective. Essential oils can help ease troublesome symptoms and support overall wellness, but it can’t be used to treat diseases. So if you want to use essential oils for a specific disease or with any medication, talk to a doctor versed in aromatherapy and pharmaceutics.

Lie #4: Ingesting Oils is Safe

Too often other companies offer dangerous uses for essential oils. For example, you should never ingest essential oils. One drop of essential oil is as strong as 40 cups of tea. You wouldn't drink 40 cups of tea in a day, so you definitely shouldn't be drinking any essential oils. There hasn't been enough research of ingesting essential oils to deem any of them safe to eat. You can clean a table with 1 drop of Lemon Essential Oil, it’s not something you should be putting into your body. If someone is recommending you to do that, it’s not for your safety.

Lie #5: Branded Tests are the Best for Testing Purity

If a math teacher taught their students 2+2=17, is the teacher correct? Many companies suggest their purity is the best, based on specific testing they design. Be leery that these branded tests were created by the company themselves. Though this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is most important that oils are tested through a third party. The best test for purity is the GC/MS test, that indicates the exact components of each oil, verifying that it is indeed 100% pure. A GC/MS test through a third party is the best proof that 2+2 does not equal 17.
